Description
This combination medicine contains irbesartan and hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ) and is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) when a single medication alone does not provide adequate blood pressure control.
A well-known brand of this combination is CoAprovel.
Uses
- Hypertension (high blood pressure)
- Patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with irbesartan alone
- Reduction of cardiovascular risks associated with uncontrolled hypertension
How It Works
Irbesartan blocks the effects of angiotensin II, relaxing blood vessels.
Hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ) is a diuretic (“water tablet”) that helps the body remove excess salt and water through urine.
Together they provide a stronger blood-pressure-lowering effect than either medicine alone.
